Capturing the Hospital's Adverse Event & Disease Management Data
April 27, 2023
As featured in the Patient Safety Movement April 2023 Newsletter
Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States. Any meaningful and sustained reduction in these events is very challenging in a siloed environment where the hospital and its clinical departments struggle to collaborate and communicate about adverse events. In recent years, data management software has helped with providing enterprise solutions that allow physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and the entire hospital to manage all quality and safety reporting work on the same platform.
Qview Health integrates hospital-wide incident reporting (IR), physician-driven case reviews, and institutional or departmental peer review activities, including OPPE and FPPE. Case reviews, traditionally conducted in the CQI or morbidity and mortality conference, collect varying sets of data, which are dependent on the specialty of the providers. These reviews could not be performed on the same platform if not for Qview’s configurable and flexible design. This allows clinicians to collect and review meaningful data, while maintaining a secure and privileged environment for the institution. A toolkit, with internal secure messaging, an interdepartmental referral system, a conference management tool (with automated slides for conference presentations), a DICOM viewer, a document repository for every case, and a robust reporting/search capacity, provides significant additional value.
With the means to confidentially perform incident reporting and case and peer reviews, and to securely communicate across departments, delays in data collection and communication are significantly reduced. Quick identification of quality concerns allows for immediate corrective action, as well as the development and tracking of preventative protocols to reduce future occurrences. Hospital-wide use of such data management software will allow clinicians and administrators the ability to more quickly identify and correct safety concerns.
UC Davis Health Adopts Qview Enterprise Software to Support Hospital-Wide Quality Initiative
February 20, 2021
Qview Health, Inc., creators of Qview Enterprise software for tracking adverse events in healthcare, recently closed on a 5-year agreement with UC Davis Medical Center to implement Qview Enterprise in all departments and services of UC Davis Medical Center. Hospital-wide use of the software will allow clinicians and administrators the ability to more quickly identify and correct safety concerns.
Dr. Gregory J. Jurkovich, Professor of Surgery and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at UC Davis Health, says, “We are partnering with Qview to improve our already excellent care. The ability to refer cases to other divisions and departments to discuss quality of care issues in a HIPAA-compliant and protected environment can be crucial for enhancing patient care. A relational database of quality-of-care concerns and outcomes should allow a much more institutional picture of areas in need of focus, which is always helpful for providers.”
“Working with the adult and pediatric surgical departments over the past few years we’ve seen firsthand the commitment to quality and patient care at UC Davis,” says Michael Baker, President and CEO of Qview Health. “We’re pleased that Qview Enterprise was chosen for hospital-wide implementation. Expanding the means for collaboration around quality of care at all levels of the organization is a win for providers and patients alike.”
Qview Enterprise software uses physician-reported adverse event and disease management data to support actionable quality improvement plans within healthcare systems. Configurable at the department and specialty level, Qview Enterprise provides flexibility for clinicians to input and access data while maintaining a standardized and secure platform for the institution. With the means to confidentially perform case review and securely communicate across departments, delays in data collection and communication are significantly reduced. Quick identification of quality concerns allows for immediate corrective action, as well as the development and tracking of preventative protocols to reduce future occurrences.
